Specialist Veterinarian Dr. Rüdiger Brems is a veterinary of a clinic for horses in Wolfesing, he carried out for many years the top German stars horses and training them to international competitions before. For an interview, Dr. Rüdiger gives practical tips on how to prepare the best horse for the tournament season.
What is the ideal training from?
The training must be slow to increase fitness. The horse should not be too early at the peak of his performance in some weeks before the tournament. Ideally, train a horse three days before to reach the competition's top form. The last two days before the tournament should be a relaxed approach and the horse moves only slightly for testing loose and balance.
Should tournament horses be on the pasture?
In general, grazing horses are highly recommended for the tournament. They are not wild because the risk of injury must be avoided. It is important that the horse should not eat lots of fresh grass. Less lush pastures are more suitable for horses tournament.
Which diet is recommended for horses?
What is important is a diet that adapts to the horse. Because horses need a lot of energy and high-quality nutrients, they may not be yet too heavy.
